It took me a bit to get into the first book. I thought the first chapter had real potential, but then it bogged just a bit and I almost quit. And I am so glad I didn't. Billie-Jo takes her characters in interesting directions in this book, full of conflict and change.

Len and Kai go through the most changes, and seem to be on opposite paths. Len's character is growing, changing, maturing, but Kai, the once stalwart champion, is slowly being poisoned by those that call him friend and ally, leading him down a dark road he may never be able to climb out of.

New characters are introduced, interesting and varied, as Billie-Jo delves into the past of our main characters Kai, Len, Anna, and Ulrich, peeling back the story like an onion.

The board is set and the climax for the first arc awaits and I'm eager to see what Book 3 holds for her characters.
