I came across this book on sale and thought I would give it a try. It definitely requires a complete suspension of disbelief to read- because really, what woman is ok with a stalker sending her gifts, breaking into her home and having his wicked way with her all while wishing he was another man? She may have complained that Noah approached her like a business takeover, but his takeover strategy was most definitely hot! The constant avoidance of stating or showing their feelings for each other got really annoying a little over halfway through the book, and Lauren took it to a whole new level even after Noah revealed himself as Mr. Mysterious. With all that being said, it was a quick read, had some really yummy and hot sex scenes and was an okay read if you are able to get past everything stated previously.Tags : Naughty Little Secret [Shelley Bradley] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <DIV>By night, he becomes a mysterious stranger devoted only to her pleasureand discovers shes hiding a naughty little secret. Naughty Little Secret Shelley Bradley 9781599982939 Books Reviews
Please - ignore all the reviews that focus on the "stranger" aspect of the story - I'm glad I did, because this story is so much more than you think. Noah has known Lauren for many years, and he was careful about obtaining her implicit consent before he made any moves. Lauren may not have known exactly who it was in her bed, but she knew it was someone she could trust and she had multiple opportunities to give her consent along the way.
And yes, when the truth comes out, all the questions are answered. Painfully, when necessary, but honestly throughout.
Aside from the secretive nature of their early relationship, this was a beautiful office/work romance. Noah knew exactly what Lauren needed to bring her out of her shell after her divorce, and he was one determined suitor who was determined to clear any obstacles out of their way. Every woman should be so lucky!
This book was different for me and left me with some mixed feelings. The characters are likable, though I had trouble believing that the extravagant measures taken to woo the h were necessary. If they had just had an honest conversation much anxiety could have been avoided. I usually find this annoying.
There may be some triggers in this book for some. I did not really care for the way the H broke into her house to seduce her without revealing his identity. I also found it difficult to believe that she would just go along with the situation- multiple times- instead of calling the cops or causing him bodily harm. I really disliked that she just took the word of a stranger, and that he would have unprotected sex with her when she did not know him . I personally do not find fear as a lead in to passion.
I do think it was well written and that the story had potential, though I would have preferred for it to develop differently. and that is why I gave it 3 stars. (less)
So this is my second read for this author. My first read was a recent story, whereas this is an older story. For both of the books, some of those reviews had similar statements of not her best work, and I'm very hesitant to read anything else from the author. If I do read anything again by her, it won't be anything I have to pay for. I'm still in shock that I finished this book. Please note from here on there are spoilers, proceed with caution.
So this is a friends to lovers book. Our heroine is a divorcee working for her ex's friend. Apparently they have both been in love with each other (him longer then her). She's had her heart broken and is hesitant to get back into the game even though she's been divorced for two years. He's been dating "bimbos" and "Barbies" and never really been in a relationship. The heroine, Lauren, is just full of insecurities, and that Noah (hero) could never be interested in her because she's not pretty enough. However, she dresses sexier at work hoping he will notice, but doesn't think he does. Noah had noticed and has been coming up with a plan to sneak into her house and night when her children are not home and seduce her; however, this seduction at times is basically sexual assault. While Lauren never actually full on fights him off, there are a few instances where she says "no", "stop" etc, and Noah doesn't really stop, he just gets her to relent. This isn't a dom/sub relationship, he is sneaking into her home, restraining her, wearing a mask to hide his identity. Lauren is just plain infuriating because once she finds out it's Noah and he professes his love, it's all, "you're going to leave me" and when he walks out because she won't listen to him and denies she loves him, she can't believe he left. This happens a couple of times; you keep pushing a person a way, they aren't going to come back. I could almost understand a small fraction of her insecurities if her ex had left her for another woman, but no, the ex left her because he was more dedicated to his work and never really loved her that way to begin with. The icing on the cake of this, the ex, basically knew Noah was in love with Lauren, and hoped that Noah would steal Lauren away from him. So inclusion all these characters are really messed up in the head and there really isn't a single redeeming quality about any of them.
Let's start by saying this is my first Shayla Black book and I did enjoy it. I'm actually more on the 3.5 stars side. There just wasn't much to it. I read the synapses and it was what it said it would be, so really I shouldn't complain.
But the girl, Lauren, in this story, was such a mess. Yes, she had been divorced so now she was gunshy on love now, which isn't unexpected. But after everything is done to prove Noah loves her and isn't going anywhere, she still can't give in. it's painful to read, and I don't mean the heartbreaking kind. I mean the I want to shake her out of her stupid painful.
Anyway, Noah is a dream. He didn't go about things perfectly but it was desperate times and he took some desperate measures. I don't want to give anything away
but the man coming to her at night was hot, even if so very unrealistic. I mean I would at least think about some hot stranger coming into my house and worshipping my body, but of course the real reaction would be screaming and calling the cops. but hey, it's fiction, and I'm ok with it.
I did like it, just felt like there could have been more than just a wishy washy girl that needed a smacking.
