The book began o.k. but the longer I read it, the more I disliked it. Amanda Lennox is a lady from Boston, lost in the wilds, while trying to take her charge, a ten year old she calls the brat, to his father in Pony, Montana. She is rescued by half breed Jacob Chandler when she gets her foot stuck in a tree in a stream. To call the woman asinine is an understatement; who goes off into the wild without a guide?, has no sense of direction, can't even start a fire, and finally turns into a doormat for a guy who definitely could use anger management. There is a lot of sexual innuendo, plenty of sex, a lot of cursing(if this turns you off). And when "the brat" goes missing and Amanda enlists Jake's help to find him, it seems she becomes more focused on the "smoldering" awareness of Jake when he was near than in locating the kid. Jake loses his temper quite often and rants at Amanda while she tries to analyze him. A pretty pathetic book in my opinion.

I am most disappointed with this book. The actual story line could have been very promising if it had not been very loosely strung together with bad attitude, insults and verbal abuse. I am not American and I can only wonder how the West was won if this is a sample how people treated each other.
I like the setting for this book but the characters used too words to complete a task. It took Amanda a long time to think about shooting Tom and for Jake to just make love to Amanda. This book had too many words.
This was a great book. I loved the passion between them not to mention how passionate they are about their beliefs. Their stubborness is both infuriating and indeering. Very well wrirren , kept me sucked in, made laugh, cry, gasp, and beg for more. Loved it.
Really enjoyed this story. The plot and characters were different - had me guessing up til the last page. Definitely recommend.
