Leigh's second installment in the Famous series is another enjoyable read. Like in Relatively Famous, the writing is solid, the pacing is fast to get to the tension filled good parts, and the characters are believable and well-rounded. Nothing and no one is perfect in this series, which saves it from being filed away as another pseudo-angsty yet saccharine sweet romance novel.

Here's what I love about Absolutely Famous:

1) Sydney pulls her crap together and actually deals with her REAL life, not the fake, witness protection-like life she had before. Instead of tearing Sydney and Drew apart, her exodus to London for work actually brings them closer together because Sydney learns how to BE Sydney Tannen again. While she is on her own, Sydney can deal with the attention in her own way, instead of relying on Drew to handle it for her. By not being cocooned by very angry Drew and a few mean looking bodyguards, Sydney learns that she can fight back (whether it's with a well placed knee to the crotch or a stern verbal assault). Her "eff it" attitude towards the media and fans makes her the strong character readers wanted to see earlier---but of course she couldn't be this character without first shedding her "Sydney Allen persona" and Drew's over-protectiveness.

2) Drew's short fuse when it comes to threats towards Sydney. I absolutely loved it whenever he went all caveman or slipped into his Boston accent. I actually found it funny whenever Sydney referred to him as "Angry Drew" or "Very Angry Drew". From the very beginning of the series, it was established that Drew was an alpha male, so his outbursts and rages about not being able to protect what's his are realistic.

3) The cast of secondary characters (Leah, Ryker, Adam, Allie, etc.) add to the story instead of just being background fodder. They all come across as real people who have real problems.

Here's what I had a problem with (again, this might be nit-picking):

1) There is still no resolution of the father situation. Sydney hasn't even started to even deal with it yet. I was hoping that she would have at least called him, especially since he was at the hospital when she was stabbed...and he TALKED TO DREW ABOUT MARRYING HER. Perhaps this will be dealt with in the next installment.

I love this series and can't wait to read more!

I read/reviewed the first book in this series not to long ago, and this book picked up right where the first book left off. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and I felt so sad for both Drew and Sydney at the end of book one (this review will contain spoilers for book one, you have been warned).

So at the end of book one, Sydney is attacked by a crazy man, the old stalker from her childhood and she ends up miscarrying her baby. Which is all horrible. I really was interested to see how both Sydney and Drew were going to handle this traumatic event. Truth be told, Drew doesn't deal with it well at all, he goes into crazy over protective man mood, and Sydney, well I'm not sure she really even deals with the loss until much later.

Drew takes over-protectiveness to the extreme in this book, and his temper is like completely out of control. I mean it's a little insane how he acts. When Sydney and Drew go out and a fan touches her, he loses his marbles, and then in his mind he feels like she shouldn't have been dressed a certain way, and if she hasn't been maybe she wouldn't have be touched. He just gets out of control with it all. I can totally understand why Sydney starts to feel so isolated and like she can't do anything. I mean I totally get that Drew just needs to feel in control after what happened in the previous book, but he takes it too far.

I was actually really proud of Sydney in this book. In the previous book she is so nervous about anyone finding out who she is that she isolates herself, but in this book she really starts to come out of her shell. She goes out with friends, and learns to make new friends. And more than that, when she starts to feel isolated and trapped when Drew starts to lose it, she is able to stand up and say its too much and that she needs to take care of herself.

A couple of things stood out to me in this book. The first is that I loved that even though Sydney and Drew had some issues that they had to work through, they never stopped loving each other, and you could tell their bond was totally in tact. I loved some of the secondary characters in this book, Leah made a great and memorable appearance, but Allie, Drew's little sister really was the show stealer for the secondary character.

This book is a great sequel in this series, and one I enjoyed reading from beginning to end. I have really grown to love these characters and I think you will too. So if you like new adult romances, or romances with movie stars, then you should check out this series.
Here's the thing. There are parts of this book (and series) that I like. And then I get stuck on things that make it really hard for me to want to continue. I like the general concept and the overall story lines. I like the concept of the characters and there are moments when I really like them. The romantic interludes are usually fun and hot. In general it's a pretty easy read that entertains well enough.

But overall, what I have struggled with is the general unlikeability of the main characters. I keep hoping for some depth, some internal analysis to address and resolve flaws/issues --- but it always seems to fall a little short and the character development seems really shallow. I want to like them, but sometimes they are just completely unlikeable.

As the series progresses, I also have trouble with the overall relationship between Sydney and Drew. If I were to write a completely co-dependent, self-destructive relationship story with frequent controlling behaviors and emotional abuse, I could use these two as the perfect example. I'm just not sure why they are together, other than apparently very hot sex. Because the rest of the time, they seem just treat each other horribly.
